Second Half Starts Tonight- The calendar might only show that it is the beginning of December, but for the Lewiston MAINEiacs, tonight is their 35th game of the season, signaling the start of the second half. In the first half of the campaign, the MAINEiacs posted a 21-11-0-2 mark, which was good for 44 points. During that time, Lewiston scored 122 goals (T-4th most), while allowing 106 (8th fewest). Season Series- The season series between Lewiston and Baie-Comeau has been much closer than the numbers would indicate. The MAINEiacs have won all four contests, but two of those games were decided in the last eight minutes of regulation, and one game needed overtime to determine a winner. Etienne Brodeur leads the two teams with five goals and seven points, while four different players have two points each for the Drakkar. Nicholas Champion has three of Lewiston 's four wins, while Jason Missiaen has three of Baie-Comeau's four defeats.
Penalty Kill Continues to Shine- One of the MAINEiacs' strengths during the first half of the season has been their penalty kill. Despite being shorthanded a league-high 180 times, Lewiston has put together 149 successful kills, amounting to an 82.8% success rate, which ranks third in the QMJHL. The MAINEiacs are tied for third in the league with seven shorthanded goals, led by Etienne Brodeur, who netted his league-leading fifth shorthanded tally on Sunday.
Slow Starters are Coming Around- For the first three months of the season, the Baie-Comeau Drakkar were stuck in quite the rut, losing 26 straight games at one point. Since then, the team has rebounded, picking up points in four of their last five games, going 2-1-2. Over the weekend, Baie-Comeau snagged three out of four possible points at home, including a 3-2 win over Rimouski on Sunday.
Utilizing their System- Despite playing in just 32 regular season games, the Drakkar have made full use of their roster, as 31 different skaters and three goaltenders have seen action at some point this season. Baie-Comeau has made three trades so far, acquiring Sebastien Bergeron, Danick Malouin, and Pierre-Alexandre Ouellet, while sending Antoine Laperriere and Pierrick Martel to new homes. On the flip side, Lewiston has used 24 different skaters and five goaltenders.
Head-to-Head- Tonight marks the 36th all-time meeting between the MAINEiacs and Drakkar, as well as the fifth already this season. Lewiston has won each of the previous four, clinching the season series for the fourth time in eight years, to go along with four splits.
