Derek Leblanc Named Oakley CHL Player of the Week

(Rapid City, SD) - The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that Rush forward Derek LeBlanc has been named Oakley CHL Player of the Week for the term ending November 14th. LeBlanc collected at least a goal and an assists in all three games last week, totaling seven points in that stretch. The third-year winger led the Rush to a 2-0-1 record last week and currently leads the team with fourteen points in eleven games played.
"It's great to see Derek receive this very well deserved honor," said head coach Joe Ferras. "He has been one of our top players since the start of season in Fort Wayne. He has come in focused this season in order to prove that he's one of the league's top power forwards by bringing a great work ethic every night. Derek is one of the few players that is a true game breaker."
LeBlanc began the week with a two-point effort on Wednesday against the Colorado Eagles, scoring the game-tying goal with just 17 seconds left in regulation to force extra time. In Friday's 4-2 win over Mississippi, he posted another two point effort before collecting a season-high three points in Saturday's 5-4 victory over the Tulsa Oilers.
"It's a great honor to receive this award," said LeBlanc. "I'm playing with two really good linemates out there who could have easily won this award as well. I am happy to be recognized individually, but am even happier that the team picked up a pair of big wins this weekend."
The Brandon, Manitoba native leads the Rush with fourteen points (7g, 7a) and seven powerplay points (3g, 4a).

Rapid City is 6-4-1 overall and have picked up points in five of the last six games.
