Greensboro Gargoyles News Release
GREENSBORO, NC - The Greensboro Gargoyles, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes and the AHL's Chicago Wolves, are partnering with Assistant Captain Demetrios Koumontzis to support the Black Child Development Institute (BCDI), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing year-round academic support and enrichment opportunities to students who have been historically underserved in Guilford County Schools.
BCDI works to improve educational outcomes and expand access to resources for children and families through tutoring, mentoring, and community-based programming. With a focus on building confidence, academic success, and a sense of belonging, the organization plays a vital role in supporting students both inside and outside the classroom.
Koumontzis has spent time away from the rink volunteering directly with students at BCDI and will further that connection on April 12 when the Gargoyles host the Worcester Railers at First Horizon Coliseum. As part of the initiative, 60 students from BCDI will be welcomed to the game for a behind-the-scenes experience, including the opportunity to go on the bench for warmups, welcome the team onto the ice from inside the tunnel, and join the team in the locker room for the reading of the starting lineup.
To support BCDI's ongoing programming, Koumontzis is auctioning a signed pair of his game-worn skates, while the Gargoyles will raffle a team-signed Wizard Night jersey. An open donation link is also available for fans and community members who wish to contribute.
Proceeds from the initiative will help fund critical resources and opportunities that empower students to grow academically, build confidence, and feel supported in their educational journey.
Every donation makes a difference. Fans are encouraged to join the Greensboro Gargoyles and Demetrios Koumontzis in creating access, opportunity, and unforgettable experiences for local students.
