LAST TIME OUT: The 'Birds bats came to play for a second straight day, pounding out 14 hits en route to a 10-7 win over Lynchburg on Friday night.
All starters recorded a hit for the 'Birds with Mishael Deson (2-for-4, 3RBI) and Trendon Craig (3-for-3, 2RBI) leading the way. Frederick Bencosme blasted his second homer of the season and Noelberth Romero posted his second straight multi-hit game. Luis Valdez scored three runs for the second straight game, going 2-for-5 with 2SB. Angel Vargas and Alejandro Mendez combined out of the 'pen for 4 no-hit innings to provide relief down the stretch. The 'Birds again dealt with a near late inning meltdown, as Mendez came on in relief in the eighth and stranded the tying run at the plate.
TODAY'S OPPONENT: Ryan Webb toes the slab on Saturday for Lynchburg. Webb was a fourth round pick out of Georgia for Cleveland and is making his fourth start of the year. In his first three outings, Webb has gone 12.1 innings, striking out 15 and walking seven. Webb underwent Tommy John surgery in May of 2021, holding back his professional debut until this year when he pitched with the ACL Guardians.
REED RETURNS: Following off-season shoulder surgery, Reed Trimble returned to Delmarva Friday night, going 2-for-4 in his return to Salisbury. In his first three games, Trimble is slashing .300/.391/.400 with two doubles, three runs scored, and two driven in. RINGING ROBBIE: Roberto Martinez came into the series with Carolina (7/12-7/17) having hit just two doubles on the season, but has now pounded out seven on the season after hitting five during the series in five games played (8-for-21). Martinez continued his good play, going 2-for-4 with an RBI on Sunday and then a two-run double on Tuesday against the Hillcats.

MONROY TO THE RESCUE: With the 'Birds down to a 14-man pitching staff, Eduard Monroy stepped up big on Tuesday, securing his first Delmarva save, going two innings, allowing just an unearned run without allowing a walk for just the third time this season. After allowing 20 earned in his first 15.1 innings, Monroy hasn't allowed an earned run since June 28 in 7.2 IP (has given up seven unearned runs).
CRUZING ALONG: Although still just 18, Deivy Cruz has made an instant impression in Single-A. The lefty has a 1.03 ERA in 26.1 innings, allowing just 18 hits while striking out 28. The performance has started to turn heads, with Cruz now checking in at No. 27 on Baseball America's top-30 Orioles prospects. Cruz fired six innings allowing two unearned runs on July 28 at Lynchburg to earn his first career quality start.

He has 4 doubles and a homer during the stretch witih six driven in and posted three straight multi-hit games to open the series against Lynchburg. De Leon was acquired from Miami in exchange for Richard Bleier in September 2020.
SHY MISHAEL: Mishael Deson broke out of a serious funk with a three-run homer Tuesday, his first long ball of the season. It was his first XBH since May 18 against Fredericksburg, a span of 28 games. Deson followed that up with a three-RBI game on Friday. Deson was part of the package the O's recieved from Colorado for Mychal Givens in 2020 (Terrin Vavra, Tyler Nevin).
GRADEBALL: Conor Grady set a new career high with eight strikeouts in five innings Wendesday against Lynchburg. Over his past three starts, Grady is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA and in 14 innings has struck out 15.

FREDDY BASE KNOCKS: All Frederick Bencosme has done since join the 'Birds is pile up the hits.
He is 50-for-142 (.352) for the 'Birds, having piled up 15 multi-hit games in just 38 games played.
Bencosme is still just 19 and has barely played stateside, having spent all of 2021 in the DSL.
RUN, LUIS, RUN: MLB.com recently crowned Valdez the fastest player in the O's system, and that's been bearing fruit on the bases. Valdez leads the league with 52 stolen bases and ranks fourth in the entirety of the minors. Valdez now sits alone in second place in 'Birds single-season history, trailing just Darrell Dent (60, 1997).
TIDE, RISEN: The Orioles front office's meticulous approach in the recent rebuild has started to bear fruit, as the Orioles minor league system was named the No. 1 farm system in baseball for the second consecutive ranking by MLB Pipeline. Current top-30 O's prospects on the 'Birds roster per MLB Pipeline are: No. 21 Reed Trimble, No. 27 Carter Baumler, and No. 30 Anthony Servideo.
