Frederick Keys News Release
Frederick, MD - The Frederick Keys (6-8) survived a scare in the bottom of the ninth inning, as Chris Piersoll came on to retire Juan Ontiveros with the bases loaded. The Keys, led by five RBI's from Mario Delgado defeated the Wilmington Blue Rocks (7-7), 6-4.
For the third consecutive game the Keys got on the board in the first inning when Delgado singled up the middle to drive in Nick Markakis. The Keys took a commanding lead in the bottom of the third after Wilmington starter Anibal Sanchez loaded the bases. Delgado followed with a grand slam to center field off Sanchez, for his third home run of the season.
The five run cushion was all the Keys would need, despite Wilmington's best efforts, which included a run in the top of the fourth and a Chad Spann three-run home run off Keys starter Richard Stahl, to bring the Blue Rocks within one run in the sixth.
Tommy Arko provided an insurance run in the eighth inning for the Keys with a solo home run, his second, over the left field wall.
Richard Stahl (2-1) earned his second win of the season going 5.1 innings allowing four earned runs on five hits. Chris Britton came on to retire the last batter in the eighth inning before walking the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. Piersoll came in to finish off the last batter to earn his first save of the season.
Anibal Sanchez (1-1) took the loss allowing five runs on seven hits over 4.0 innings.
The Frederick Keys will play the game two of their four games series against the Wilmington Blue Rocks tomorrow starting at 6:35 p.m. RHP Fredy Deza will take the mound against RHP Jarrett Gardner.
Friday is Carroll County Keys For Reading Night sponsored by BP Solar and Sylvan Learning Center. The Keys 2nd Fireworks spectacular will take place after the game. Tickets are still available by calling the Keys box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
