Home opener gets P-Nats back on track

The Potomac Nationals returned home 4-6 to a crowd of excited fans after a road trip to Salem, Lynchburg and Myrtle Beach.

In the Home Opener against Lynchburg on Monday April 18th, the P-Nats edged the Hillcats 7-6. Josh Whitesell had 3 RBI and a solo HR in the 2nd. Pitcher Dan Kolb, who earned the win for the P-Nats, allowed 2 runs on 2 hits and struck out 2. Brett Reid earned the saved allowing only one hit in one inning and striking out 2.

On Tuesday, the P-Nats were once again winners on the night after defeating the Hillcats 4-3. Tuesday's victory also gave the P-Nats the series win. Salomon Manriquez went 2-for-3 and scored two of the Nationals four runs. Pitcher Brett Price earned his first win of the season going five innings, allowing only two runs on three hits and striking out five. Kolb earned his third save.

Even though the Nationals (6-7) won the series, they were not able to complete the sweep as the Hillcats (8-5) took game three 14-10 Wednesday night. Lynchburg got the ball rolling and kept it going, putting up eight runs in the first three innings and at least one in every inning following, except the final two of the game. The P-Nats were able to cut the lead to four, but could not get closer than that. Frank Diaz and Kory Casto both went 3-for-5 while Doc Brooks, who has hit in 13 straight games, went 2-for-4 with two doubles in a game where each team had 13 hits.

The P-Nats hit the road again for a four game set at Winston-Salem starting tonight at 7:00p.m. LHP Mike O'Connor (0-2, 7.88), looking for his first win of the season, will be on the mound for the Nationals. The Warthogs will send another southpaw, Ryan Rodriguez (2-0, 2.45), to counter O'Connor. The event begins one hour and fifteen minutes prior to the game and ends as the game begins. Minimum is 20 guests. Picnic packages include a reserved seat ticket, entrees, several side items, chips, dessert, drinks and $2.00 beer.
