DeLeon Named Pitcher of the Week

FLORENCE, Ky - The Frontier League announced on Monday that Freedom right-hander, Christian DeLeon, was named "Frontier League Pitcher of the Week" after his phenomenal start against the Traverse City Beach Bums last Thursday. This award is the culmination of a torrid stretch for DeLeon, who righted the ship after a slow start to have one of the most dominant months of any pitcher in the league.
Entering Thursday's outing, DeLeon had not allowed a run over his previous nine frames. The former Cornhusker would extend that streak to 16, tossing seven shut-out innings against the Beach Bums. Over his last 28 innings, the Rookie-1 has allowed just one run. Thanks to the performance of the right-hander, Florence was able to cruise to a, 6-1, win on Thursday, ensuring DeLeon a fourth straight victory while avoiding a series sweep. Additionally, DeLeon has taken a no-hitter into the fifth inning or later in three of his last four starts, highlighted by an outing at Lake Erie this month, when the hurler carried his bid 6.2 innings.
Between the conclusion of his collegiate career and the beginning of his tenure in Florence, DeLeon played briefly for the Melbourne Aces of the Australian Professional Baseball League in 2017. This is native of Houston's second season in pro ball, and he boasts a 4-2 record with a 3.29 ERA over eight appearances (seven starts). DeLeon joins teammates, Skyler Ewing, Steve Hagen and Jordan Brower as Freedom players to take home Pitcher/Player of the Week honors in 2018.
The Freedom will return home for a three-game set against a fellow West Division foe, the Normal Cornbelters, starting Tuesday. DeLeon is slated to get the start on Wednesday in the middle game of the series. All three games have a scheduled start time of 6:35, with gates set to open at 5:35.
