Delaware 87ers and B+ Foundation Tip-Off against Pediatric Cancer
February 25, 2014 - NBA G League (G League)
Delaware Blue Coats News Release
NEWARK, DEL.-February 25, 2014- The Delaware 87ers announced today the team will host the Andrew McDonough B+ (positive) Foundation night on Friday, February 28 at 7:00 p.m. when they host the Sioux Falls Skyforce at the Bob Carpenter Center.
The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation honors the memory of Andrew, a 14-year-old athlete from Wilmington, Delaware who battled Leukemia. Inspired by Andrew's caring attitude and positive outlook, the McDonough family has established the B+ Foundation.
"We consider it a privilege to be able to help support the B+ Heroes and their families," said Sevens Chief Operating Officer Larry Meli. "These children are part of the community that supports us and being able to give back to them makes this a rewarding experience for everyone involved. We are proud to be a part of this special night."
All tickets to this game will be $15 and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the B+ foundation. The Sevens will wear themed B+ Jerseys and fans will have the chance to bid on the game worn jerseys in a silent auction on the concourse during the game, the proceeds from which (along with any cash donations) will be donated back to the B+ Foundation in support of pediatric cancer. In addition, all fans will receive a complimentary B+ t-shirt and the first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive an 87ers Team Card set, presented by ATI Physical Therapy.
"We're thrilled to be teaming up with the Sevens for B+ Night," said Joe McDonough, Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation Co-Founder. "We get to raise awareness about childhood cancer and put smiles on the faces of our B+ Heroes - children who have battled cancer."
Several local B+ Heroes will be in attendance at the game. These Heroes will be given the honor of delivering the game ball to the officials and remain on court during the national anthem.
Fraternities and sororities on the University of Delaware's campus will compete in raising funds for the B+ Foundation and UDance, the largest student-run philanthropy on campus that benefits the B+ Foundation. The chapter that raises the highest total will be honored in game on February 28 and receive a $500 allowance for a Buffalo Wild Wings private event.
Other initiatives from the night include:
B+ Heroes and their families will have their picture taken at center court The Silent Auction will offer memorabilia including the game-worn B+ jerseys, a 76ers jersey autographed by NBA Rookie of the Year front-runner Michael Carter Williams, courtside seats to an upcoming Sevens or Sixers game, and much more The Sevens donated a number of tickets for Friday's game to several local organizations including Make-a-Wish Foundation of Delaware, Ronald McDonald House of Delaware, and the AI DuPont Hospital for Children
