BAKERSFIELD, February 24, 2014 - The Bakersfield Jam (12-21) struggled in the fourth quarter and fell to the Idaho Stampede (20-15) Monday night by a final score of 103-99. Ike Diogu led the Jam with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Bakersfield led for the majority of the first half, building a 13-point lead at one point in the second quarter, and went into the break with a 65-56 advantage. Diogu scored 19 of his 21 points in the first half on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. In the third quarter, the Jam got outscored 26-21 but the main difference in the game came in the final frame where Bakersfield shot only 27.3 percent from the floor and scored a total of 13 points. Altogether, Idaho outscored Bakersfield 47-34 in the second half.
Overall, the Stampede shot better from the floor (45.2%-42.3%), but the Jam held the edge in points in the paint (62-56) and second chance points (15-13). A key difference in the game was free-throws as Idaho converted on 20-of-27 attempts, while Bakersfield made 10-of-15.
JamesOn Curry posted 18 points, six assists and six rebounds off the bench. Terrel Harris had 17 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, while Markeith Cummings tallied 13 points as a reserve.
The Stampede were led by Kevin Murphy who had a game-high 34 points to go along with eight rebounds. Dee Bost added 27 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Dexter Strickland contributed 16 points off the bench.
Bakersfield's next game is on Friday, February 28 against the Reno Bighorns. Tip-off is set at 7:00 p.m. PST at the Dignity Health Event Center.
