Fargo Force News Release

The Fargo Force and Sioux Falls Stampede met in United States Hockey League action for the second straight Saturday. The home team changed, the Fargo goaltender changed, and the game ended a bit sooner this time.

The result was exactly the same, however. Sioux Falls defended their home ice with a 2-1 victory over Fargo.

Matt Tabrum and Dominic Zombo helped the Stampede come out like gangbusters in the first period. The duo scored goals 5:40 apart in the back half of the first period to give Sioux Falls a 2-0 lead after the opening period.

The second period went by without a goal or a penalty from either side. Heading to the third period, Sioux Falls held a slim shot advantage at 18-17, and led on the scoreboard, 2-0.

Early in the third period, Joe Rehkamp tallied his second goal of the season to cut the Sioux Falls lead to one. Chad Demers continued his hot start by picking up the primary assist on the goal. Willie Corrin added the secondary assist to extend his point streak to two games.

Tomas Pastor took two penalties in the last 14 minutes for Sioux Falls, giving the Force their first two power plays of the game. Fargo was unable to even muster a shot on goal with the man advantage.

Zane Gothberg, who stopped 18 shots for Fargo, was removed in favor of an extra attacker late in the game, but the last ditch effort was to no avail. The Stampede held on for their second 2-1 victory over Fargo this season.

Juho Olkinuora was phenomenal in goal again for Sioux Falls. He was especially sharp in the third period when the Force outshot the Stampede 10-2 in an effort to tie the game. Olkinuora made 27 saves overall to pick up the win.

Next weekend, Fargo will travel to Tri-City and Lincoln to take on the Storm and Stars. Fargo will be looking to pick up their first weekend sweep of the season. In their first five weekends, the Force has split the games.

Scheels Arena will see action again on November 10, when Fargo returns home to take on Sioux City.
