Atlantic City Surf News Release

Atlantic City, NJ- The Atlantic City Surf scored five runs Wednesday night in the ninth inning to comeback for the second straight game at the Sandcastle to defeat the Pennsylvania Road Warriors, 9-8. A night after coming back from a 7-0 deficit the Surf had some magic left as they used a walk-off walk to complete their climb back from being down 8-3 in the eighth. After Ben Candelaria's two-out bases loaded two-run double tied the score at eight and Al Benjamin was intentionally walked, pinch-hitter Mel Rosario took ball four on a full count to give the Surf their tenth win of the season in their last at-bat.

The Surf are now a perfect 14-0 when starter Kyle Goldwater takes the mound despite him allowing eight runs on eight hits in six and two-thirds innings of work. Reliever Damon Ponce Deleon was credited with his tenth win after pitching two and a third scoreless innings. Gary Johnson had two hits including a leadoff homerun and scored two runs. Surf third baseman Dario Delgado shook off his error to collect three hits and drive in a run. Jose Velazquez, Candelaria, Benjamin, and David Housel had two hits a piece as well.

Felix Rodriguez started for Pennsylvania and allowed just three runs in seven innings. Reliever Carlos Fernandez allowed five runs, four earned and Fernando DeAza took the loss after walking in Velazquez. The Road Warriors jumped out to their lead with homeruns by Melvin Falu, Ramiro Chamizo and DeRond Stovall. Stovall and Chamizo each had three RBI.

The Surf will go for the sweep tomorrow night at the Sandcastle beginning at 6:35pm. Fireworks will follow the contest courtesy of Morgan Stanley. The Surf will send Anthony Chavez (4-4) against Pedro Diaz (1-3).
