Deja Vu All Over Again - Mainers Blow Past New Bedford

Same idea, different venue was the situation at Goodall Park tonight as the Sanford Mainers blew out the New Bedford Bay Sox 11-3. On Sunday the Mainers put up 10 runs on 16 hits to defeat the Bay Sox and they put up another 16 hits tonight.

The bad day all started for New Bedford when they found themselves stuck in traffic, and what was supposed to be a 6:30pm game start, turned into a 7:27pm first pitch.

The Mainers sent freshman pitcher, Rohn Pierce to the mound and he made in impression early. He struck out the first two hitters he faced, gave up a double, and stuck out the clean-up hitter; good enough to strike out the side.

The offense would mimic what the Bay Sox first three hitters did, with the first two hitters striking out and a follow-up double by Paul Kronenfeld during his first at bat of the season.

However, Jordan Betts changed the pace by smacking a two out home run to right field to put the Mainers up 2-0.

The score would stay the same over the next two innings, but would be added to once again by the Mainers in the fourth by an RBI triple from catcher Nate LaPointe. LaPointe didn't stick around third for too long as he would come into score on a sacrifice fly by Cam Young.

Sanford scored twice more in the fifth inning with three straight singles from Jose Torralba, Kronenfeld, and Betts.

6-0 would be the score in favor of the Moose entering into the sixth inning, but this is where the Bay Sox found themselves on the board for the first time. Third baseman, Sean Riley hit a laser of a home run, good enough for two, to reduce the Mainers lead to 4.

The Mainers grabbed two more in the bottom half of the sixth, and the Bay Sox added one more themselves. However, the game went completely out of reach when Sanford plated 3 more in the bottom of the eighth.

With runners on the corners after a fielder's choice, Torralba found himself in a full count situation. What should of been the second out of the inning when he popped up just foul on the third base side, gave Torralba another chance when both Riley and catcher Alex Farkes let the ball drop in between them. He would take full advantage of this opportunity, sending a ball to right-center field for an RBI double.

Charlie Haslup came into the ninth and retired all three batters that he faced to seal the victory for the Mainers.

In two games with the Bay Sox in just four days, the Mainers have scored 21 runs on 32 hits.

The Mainers will be home again tomorrow to take on the Laconia Muskrats. The Muskrats have defeated the Mainers twice already this season. Tripp Davis will be on the mound tomorrow night. His first pitch is slated to come at 6:30pm.
