December Is An Exciting Month for the Rocket

December 1, 2011 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
P.E.I. Rocket News Release

The month of December is a month for giving and the PEI Rocket have a couple of special events in place to give to their fans. For the first time ever, the team is throwing a Holiday Celebration for all of their fans, young and old alike. In addition to this, they are also having their annual Skills Competition.

Before the December 9th game against the Halifax Mooseheads, there will be face painting, balloon twisting, free pop corn, photo opportunities with Tomahawk and Santa Claus, and a meet and greet with Coach Dwyer as well as other Rocket players in the lobby. In the lounge, there will be live entertainment, free wings and special pricing for those 19 years of age and over. "December is a month for giving and this is a way for us to give back as we offer something for every one of our fans. We want to have the Civic Centre full of energy that night and what better way to start the evening than with a special pre-game event full of fun and entertainment?", says Trent Birt, PEI Rocket VP of Operations.

On Sunday, December 11, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, the ever popular Budget Car and Truck Rental Skills Competition is being held at the Civic Centre. Players will compete against each other in penalty shot, hardest shot, accuracy shooting, fastest skating and relay events, as in other years but the coaches are also looking to add another competition that will be unique to such a contest.

Coach Gordie Dwyer says, "We are looking forward to this day as our players showcase their skills they don't necessarily have the time to in game situations. This will be a day of fun for our players and fans alike."

The month is also a big one on the ice for the Rocket as they have four big games at home against teams that have traditionally drawn good crowds. Each game has a unique draw as Acadie- Bathurst has the league's leading scorer, the Halifax Mooseheads have future NHL star Nathan MacKinnon and arch rival Moncton Wildcats are in town with Brandon Gormley if he is not at the World Juniors.
