PEI Rocket Fans' Choice Awards Banquet March 18
March 5, 2013 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
P.E.I. Rocket News Release
March 18 will be a special night for PEI Rocket fans and players alike, as the team's annual Fans' Choice Awards banquet takes place at the Rodd Royalty Hotel. During the evening, our regular season award winners, as voted on by the fans, will be announced and for the second consecutive year, there will be a guest speaker.
The night is always well attended as the team reflects on its regular season and the fans take the opportunity to show their appreciation for what the players have done throughout the year. This year, the night will close the book on one of the team's most successful regular seasons since the Rocket arrived on PEI and the people in the room will share their energy as they push the team into the playoffs with great enthusiasm and optimism.
Tim Taylor will be the keynote speaker for the night. Taylor was drafted in the second round, 36th overall, in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft, by the Washington Capitals. After spending 5 years in the American Hockey League, he stepped into the NHL where he remained for the rest of his playing days. Tim played his first NHL game with the Detroit Red Wings during the 1993-94 season and after winning two Stanley Cups and playing in more than 800 career NHL games, he played his last NHL game in the 2006-07 season while with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Tim was a competitor that did what was best for his team and for this, he was rewarded with two Stanley Cup Championships. His first was as a member of the Detroit Red Wings and his second came as he was captain of the Tampa Bay Lighting. Tim is now the Director of Player Development for the St. Louis Blues.
"This night is a very special one for our players as we recognize their commitment and accomplishments of the past 7 months. This is obviously important for our guys and we want to make sure they receive the proper recognition. Our guest speaker this year promises to share a message everyone in the room will be motivated from as well and we are all looking forward to hearing the story of Tim Taylor. Tim achieved his many accomplishments through hard work, commitment and dedication which is something we preach to our players on a regular basis. Each week we get closer to the playoffs the excitement and intensity within our team heightens. This will be a fun event to recap a successful regular season and to have the room rally around our team as we move into the playoffs."
Aside from the award presentations and guest speaker, there will also be a buffet meal, live and silent auction and members of the team will address the fans. Fans can attend the event by purchasing tables of 8 or 10, or individual seats. Those interested in attending, please call the Rocket office at 892-7349.
