DeAngelo Inks 3 Year Deal with Lightning

Yesterday evening, Sarnia Sting defenceman, Anthony DeAngelo signed a 3-year Entry Level contract with the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning. DeAngelo was selected 19th overall by the Lightning in last year's NHL Entry Draft.

In his draft year, the Sewell, NJ native led all OHL defenceman with 15 goals and 56 assists for 71 points in 51 games players. This season, DeAngelo has had yet another strong start, registering 27 points in 22 games.

"As a group, we're very happy for Tony; it's the first step in achieving his goal of becoming a National Hockey League player. He has gotten better for us each year, and it's nice to see him get rewarded," comments Assistant Coach, Andy Delmore.

It's been a busy week for DeAngelo, winning 5 straight with the Sting, capturing the OHL lead in points by a defenceman, being invited to USA Hockey's WJC camp, and now signing his first professional contract.

DeAngelo comments, "It's an exciting week for both me and my family. It's an honor to be selected by Team USA, and a big moment, signing my first pro contract. I'd like to thank my coaches and the entire Sarnia Sting Organization for their support over the last 4 years."
