Oshawa Generals News Release
Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosis in Canadian women, with one in four cancer diagnoses being breast cancer. On Sunday, October 26, the Oshawa Generals and our fantastic Generals community came together to support breast cancer awareness with our First Annual Pink in the Rink night presented by Pandora Store Oshawa Centre and Oshawa Jewellery Inc.
This special evening was memorable for everyone inside the General Motors Centre from the very beginning of the night to the end of the game. Wendy Dal Colle, a breast cancer survivor and mother of Michael Dal Colle completed the puck drop at the game and Michael took centre ice for the puck drop, greeting his mom with a hug following the drop. Players also sported commemorative jerseys for the evening, which were auctioned off following the game. Additionally, donations were collected through the game, all in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - Durham Region.
Although the game ended in a loss for the Generals, the spirit of our fans and players was evident. The jersey auction following the game had a fantastic response. Fans took to our eBay page to bid on game worn jerseys of their favourite Generals players. With the auction wrapped up, it was time to calculate the total amount raised from the night. In total, $11,309.68 was raised for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, thanks to the kindness and generosity of our Generals community.
The Oshawa Generals send an enormous thank you to Pandora Store Oshawa Centre, Oshawa Jewellery Inc., the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, and all of our fans for making our First Annual Pink in the Rink such a success.
