Dean Goes Deep, Blue Jays Snap Losing Streak

Dunedin Blue Jays News Release

Lakeland, FL - Matt Dean got the D-Jays started with a two-run homer in the opening inning and they never trailed in a 6-4 victory over the Lakeland Flying Tigers at Joker Marchant Stadium on Saturday night. The win avoided a sweep, snapped Dunedin's five-game losing streak, and Lakeland's four-game winning streak.

Former D-Jay Jairo Labourt (2-11), traded to Detroit in the David Price deal, took the loss. He allowed six hits and six runs (three earned) in four and one-third innings.

Dean's homer, his team-leading 12th of the season, came with two out in the first after an error to open the game. Lakeland cut the lead in half with a run in the second, before Christian Lopes lined a two-run single up the middle in the third to put Dunedin up 4-1.

The Flying Tigers came right back, however, with three runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game. All the runs came in with two out in the frame.

After Labourt issued his first walk to Lopes with one out and one on in the fifth, he was lifted for Will Clinard. L.B. Dantzler was the first batter Clinard faced and the local kid from Winter Haven delivered a two-run double to right to put the D-Jays in front for good. Clinard responded by striking out six in a row and retired the next eight overall, but the damage was done.

Dunedin starter Conor Fisk lasted just four and one-third innings, so he did not qualify for a win. Arik Sikula (two and two-thirds innings), Chris Smith (one), and Wil Browning (one) retired 14 of the final 15 Lakeland batters to come to the plate. It was Browning's league-leading 19th save of the season in 21 opportunities.

Mike Reeves recorded two more hits and finished the series 5-for-10 out of the number nine spot. He caught all three games.

Dunedin opens a three-game series against the Yankees in Tampa tomorrow afternoon. Left-hander Alonzo Gonzalez will take the hill for the D-Jays. First pitch is set for 1:00 ET and the action can be heard on DunedinBlueJays.com.
