Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts (40-27) clinched a playoff berth for the first time in three seasons behind a complete game from Chase De Jong, dazzling the Bowling Green Hot Rods (37-30), 3-1, Thursday at Cooley Law School Stadium.
Lansing has won four consecutive games, including a three-game sweep of Bowling Green, and now wraps up the first half of the season with a three-game series against the second-place Great Lakes Loons Friday.
De Jong (Win, 7-4) led the way, surrendering four hits and one run in his first professional nine-inning complete game. The former second-round pick tied a professional high with ten strikeouts.
Lansing's offense manufactured three runs against Midwest League All-Star Brent Honeywell (Loss, 4-4), who allowed seven hits while striking out five in six innings.
Ryan McBroom started the scoring with an RBI single in the first, driving in Anthony Alford. It was the third consecutive game that Alford scored a run in the Lugnuts' first at-bat.
With the game even at one in the fifth, Tim Locastro provided a sacrifice fly to score D.J. Davis and break the tie.
An inning later, Davis singled in Richard Urena on a two-out, two-strike pitch for a key insurance run, finishing the scoring.
Friday is Kids Eat Free with postgame LAFCU Fireworks, with a 7:05 p.m. start time. Lansing sends Jesus Tinoco (1-4, 4.04 ERA) to the mound against Great Lakes starter Trevor Oaks (3-5, 3.11). One more victory for the Lugnuts would clinch the first-half Eastern Division title. For more information, call (517) 485-4500 or visit lansinglugnuts.com.
