Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Stockton, CA - The Stockton Ports broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the eighth inning for the only run of Saturday's game, as the Quakes dropped a 1-0 decision at Banner Island Ballpark.
Jake Nottingham's RBI groundout produced the only run of the game, as Stockton won for the second time in three nights.
Quakes' starter Chase De Jong was nothing short of brilliant, scattering six hits over seven and two-thirds innings, allowing just one run.
With the game scoreless upon entering the bottom of the eighth, De Jong gave up a lead-off single to Brett Vertigan. A one-out single by Yairo Munoz moved Vertigan to third, putting runners at the corners with just one away for Nottingham. De Jong (2-2) made a great pitch, breaking Nottingham's bat, but the ball got past the mound and second baseman Brandon Dixon had just one play, taking the out at first, allowing Vertigan to score to make it 1-0.
The Quakes, held to just a first-inning hit by Cody Bellinger over the first eight innings, got a lead-off infield hit by Delvis Morales to open the ninth against Stockton closer Corey Walter. The threat was short-lived though, as after two failed sacrifice attempts, Johan Mieses bounced into a double-play. Dixon followed with a routine grounder to short, giving Walter his second save of the year.
Stockton starter Dylan Covey pitched four scoreless innings before leaving after suffering a line drive off the bat of Jacob Scavuzzo off his chin. Stockton reliever Ben Bracewell (6-2) worked a 1-2-3 eighth to notch the win.
The Quakes (21-20, 62-49) will look for a four-game split on Sunday at 6:10pm, sending Johnathan Richy (9-4) to the mound, opposite Stockton's Matt Stalcup (1-3) in the series-finale.
After this current eight-game road trip, the Quakes will return to LoanMart Field on Friday, August 14th, taking on the Lake Elsinore Storm in the opening game of a six-game home stand. Friday the 14th is another Family RV $1 Family Feast, as fans can enjoy hot dogs, Pepsi products and ice cream sandwiches throughout the night for just one dollar each. Tickets are available online at rcquakes.com or by calling (909) 481-5000. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field very soon...Go Quakes!
