Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - J.D. Davis homered in his sixth game in a row to help back a quality start from Keegan Yuhl in an 8-0 JetHawks win over the High Desert Mavericks on Sunday night at The Hangar.
Davis' home run was his 21st of the season, a two-run shot in the fifth inning against Mavericks (59-51) reliever Felix Carvallo. Chase McDonald also hit his 21st homer in the contest. James Ramsay went 0-for-3 with two walks, ending his hitting streak at 15 games.
On the mound, Yuhl (3-0) held High Desert to three hits, walking one and striking out five. Michael Freeman earned the save, striking out four batters over three perfect innings of relief.
Lancaster scored first in the bottom of the third inning, as Mott Hyde singled and scored on a Sean McMullen double to right field. After a walk to Ramsay, a sacrifice bunt advanced both runners, and Davis followed with a two-run single for a 3-0 JetHawks lead.
McDonald hit his 21st home run of the season in the fourth off Mavericks starter Trey Lambert (5-3), who took the loss after allowing four runs over just 3.1 innings. Alex Bregman added a RBI-single in the sixth, and McMullen led off the bottom of the eighth with a triple and scored on a wild pitch by Ryan Ledbetter.
The series victory over the Mavericks moved the JetHawks within three-and-a-half games of first place in the second-half standings.
The JetHawks open a six-game road trip on Tuesday, beginning with a three-game series against the Inland Empire 66ers. Lancaster will send Francis Martes (1-1, 5.40) to the mound against the 66ers' Harrison Cooney (1-9, 5.56). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at San Manuel Stadium in San Bernardino.
