Dazzle players to support local hoopsters

Roanoke, Va., January 10 - In an effort to show support for area basketball players and coaches, current Dazzle players will be attending select high school and recreational league basketball games over the next few months.

The Dazzle recognizes the support shown by local basketball programs and wants to return the favor, by showing up and rooting these players and coaches on.

The first such game is tonight when the William Fleming Colonels take on their arch rival Patrick Henry Patriots at the Roanoke Civic Center. Dazzle members Will Bynum, Tyrone Sally, Kevin Owens and Nate Daniels will be in attendance rooting on both squads.

The Dazzle are in the middle of a month long eight game road trip and will next return home on Friday, January 27 to take on the Fayetteville Patriots at the Roanoke Civic Center with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m. This will be the first chance for fans to see former Virginia Tech standout Bryant Matthews suit up for the Dazzle.

The NBA Development League includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.).

The D-League offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Thirty-six (36) players have been called up to the NBA on 51 separate occasions. Eleven (11) former D-League coaches, six athletic trainers, 14 referees and 30 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.

Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the league also offers fun, family entertainment at affordable prices. The D-League is a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and is a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
