January 3, 2006 - NBA G League (G League)
Roanoke Dazzle News Release

Roanoke, Va., January 3 - The Roanoke Dazzle announce that they have completed a trade to acquire former Virginia Tech standout Bryant Matthews from the Albuquerque Thunderbirds of the NBA Development League in exchange for 7-0 center Andreas Glyniadakis.

"We are excited to get Bryant here in Roanoke." Said Dazzle coach Kent Davison. "We have tried for the past year to get him here and were finally able to work something out with Coach Cooper of Albuquerque and get this done."

Matthews just finished playing a 2-game series against the Dazzle this past weekend when the Thunderbirds were in town. On Friday, Matthews recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in a 113-102 Dazzle victory. Matthews came back Saturday to post 12 points and 6 rebounds in a 109-105 victory over the Dazzle.

Davison would continue on to say "This is a trade that will help both teams. They (the Thunderbirds) were looking for an inside presence and we were looking for more outside scoring and perimeter defense. Bryant should give us both of those things."

Matthews, a 6-7 forward/guard, has played in 12 games this season for the Thunderbirds averaging 27.2 minutes, 13.2 points and 6.1 rebounds. As a senior at Virginia Tech, Matthews was named First-Team All Big East after leading the conference in scoring at 22.1 points per game, finished 2nd in steals at 2.5 steals per game and 3rd in rebounding with 8.9 rebounds per game.

Matthews will be in Roanoke tomorrow and will suit up for the Dazzle this weekend, when the team travels to Fayetteville, N.C. to take on the Patriots this Friday and Saturday. Tip-off for both games is at 7:30 p.m. and can be listened to live on ESPN Radio AM 1240 "The Game".

The NBA Development League includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.).

The D-League offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella.
