January 3, 2006 - NBA G League (G League)
Florida Flame News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla., January 3 - The Minnesota Timberwolves have reassigned center Dwayne Jones to the Florida Flame of the NBA Development League, it was announced today by Timberwolves Vice President of Basketball Operations, Kevin McHale.
Jones was recalled by Minnesota on December 28, 2005 but did not see action with the Timberwolves. Jones was assigned to Florida on November 4 after earning a roster spot in the Timberwolves 2005 training camp as a non-drafted free agent. The 6-11, rookie center from St. Joseph's (PA) University, appeared in 10 games for the Flame, making nine starts. Jones averaged 9.7 points per game with the Flame and currently leads the NBA Development League in blocked shots average (2.1), ranks second in rebounding average (11.6), and is tied for fourth in the D-League in double-doubles with five.
Jones set a Florida Flame team record with 21 rebounds in Florida's 95-93 overtime win at Austin on December 11, 2005. The mark surpassed the previous team record of 16 rebounds set by Kirk Haston against Roanoke on November 21, 2004. In that contest, Jones also set the Flame team record for offensive rebounds in a game with 12.
Jones averaged 1.0 points, (.500 FG%), 1.7 rebounds and 5.0 minutes per game in three preseason contests with Minnesota after being signed as a free agent on August 26, 2005. Playing for the Timberwolves' 2005 Minnesota Summer League entry, he averaged 7.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game in five contests (all starts). The 2004-05 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year, Jones was an early entry candidate for the 2005 NBA Draft, but was not selected. The Morgantown, West Virginia native spent three seasons at Saint Joseph's University (2002-03 - 2004-05) where he averaged 7.1 points (.522 FG%), 8.5 rebounds, and 2.37 blocks per game in 98 career contests (started 69).
