Miami assigns Baron and Wright to Flame

MIAMI, January 3 - The Miami Heat announced today they have assigned forward Dorell Wright and center Earl Barron to the Florida Flame of the NBA Development League. The Flame was assigned as the Heat's D-League affiliate for the 2005-06 season.

Wright has appeared in eight games for the Heat this season, averaging 1.6 points and 1.5 rebounds in 6.4 minutes per game. He was drafted by the Heat with the 19th selection in the 2004 NBA Draft after a tremendous high school/prep school career. He was named the top prep school player in the nation by Basketball Times following his lone (2003-04) season at South Kent Prep, where he averaged 29 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks per game.

Wright also garnered the MVP of the National Prep School Tournament after averaging 36 points in three games, was named the fourth-best high school player in the country by HoopScoop and the 19th best senior in the country by USA Today. He played four seasons at Leuzinger High School in California and averaged 24.8 points and 12.6 rebounds as a senior in 2002-03, earning him Ocean League Player of the Year honors.

Barron has appeared in three games for Miami and has averaged 0.7 points and 0.7 rebounds in 2.0 minutes per game. He was sidelined earlier this season with a lower back stress fracture. He was also a member of the Heat's team in the Summer Pro League in Long Beach, CA, and averaged team-highs in points (17.4 ppg), rebounds (7.4 rpg) and blocks (1.00 bpg) in the seven contests.

Barron previously played in the D-League with the Huntsville Flight during the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons. During the 2004-05 season, he started 23 of 45 games and averaged 12.2 points and 5.7 rebounds in 25.8 minutes per game.

Dorell and Barron are the 11th and 12th NBA players to be assigned to a D-League affiliate this season. The complete list of designated players follows:

Wright and Barron will practice with the Flame beginning Wednesday and will be available to play when the Flame host the Austin Toros on Thursday.
