Dayton Gems to Celebrate Hockey Weekend in America

The Dayton Gems professional hockey team, a proud member of the "AA" Central Hockey League, announced details of their participation in the upcoming Hockey Weekend Across America on February 17 and 18.

Participating in the nationwide initiative intended to spotlight the game of hockey at all levels throughout the country, the Gems will do their part to heighten the sport when they host a pair of Central Hockey League games on Cassano's Italian Ice inside Hara Arena this Friday and Saturday night.

The Gems will pay tribute to local youth hockey players by giving them a complementary ticket to their choice of either Friday or Saturday's home game. To take advantage of this offer, area youth hockey players need to show up wearing their team jersey at the Hara Arena box office on their chosen game night to receive their complementary admission. Adults wearing any hockey jersey to the Friday, February 17 game against Allen can receive $4 off an adult center ice ticket by purchasing at the box office on gameday.

As part of the festivities, local youth hockey teams from across the Miami Valley will be skating during the first intermission on both Friday and Saturday nights. Additionally, special "Hockey 101" informational literature featuring rules and penalty explanations will be available for fans who are new to the sport.

The Gems are asking fans to join in the weekend celebration, and are encouraging them to wear their hockey apparel to work or school on Friday as it's the official "wear your favorite hockey jersey day". Fans are asked to submit photos of themselves and their colleagues in their best hockey attire at their workplace throughout the week. All of the submissions will be entered into a drawing to win a Dayton Gems office party, complete with an office visit from Gems players, the Gems mascot Blade, complementary tickets and much more.

To submit photos and enter the Gems office party drawing, fans are asked to send their submissions to info@daytongems.net or simply post them on the official Gems Facebook page at facebook.com/daytongems. Complete entries must include company name, address, phone number and submitters personal contact information.

A collaborated initiative between USA Hockey and the National Hockey League, Hockey Weekend Across America has been an annual event highlighting the sport of hockey at all levels since 2008.
