February 10, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Dayton Gems News Release
DAYTON, OH - The club hockey teams from Wright State University and the University of Dayton will face each other in a shootout during the Dayton Gems game against Quad City on Thursday, Feb. 17.
The shootout will take place during the first intermission. Both teams will be wearing their team uniforms on the ice as they take shots at the opponent's goal.
All students and faculty in attendance are encouraged to wear their school colors to support their university.
In addition to the shootout and large college crowd that is expected, Hara Arena will also be selling draft beers for just $1 that evening.
For the past four weeks, the Gems have offered discounted tickets to students at both universities. Fraternities and sororities from Wright State have also been selling tickets for the game as well. Proceeds from the tickets sold by the Greek organization will go toward each organization's philanthropy.
Both teams are a member of the ACHA. The shootout at Hara Arena comes just one day before the two teams face each other in a regularly scheduled ACHA game.
UD and WSU have already faced each other twice this season. So far, the Flyers have won both matchups this season, giving them a 2-0-0 advantage over the Raiders.
The Dayton Gems game on Feb. 17 will start at 7 p.m. with the shootout between the two college clubs taking place approximately 40 minutes later. The ACHA matchup between UD and WSU will be on Friday, Feb. 18, at 9:40 p.m. in the Kettering Rec Center.
The Gems will be starting Hockey Weekend Across America, presented by USA Hockey, on that same night. Hockey Weekend Across America has been a big success as a national platform to celebrate the game of hockey. This year the focus will be to get kids more involved with the game of hockey to help the sport grow in popularity.
Any child age 12 and under who wears their hockey jersey to the game on Feb. 17 will receive a ticket for just $6 (normally $12) at the Hara Arena Box Office on the night of the game.
The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
