Thunder Signs Beech to Five-Game Contract

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder signed goaltender Kevin Beech to a five-game contract on Thursday afternoon.

Beech appeared in 19 games this season with the Texas Brahmas, going 8-4-2 with a 3.25 goals against average and an .891 save percentage. On November 6th, Beech worked a 26-save shutout against the Arizona Sundogs. The Brantford, Ontario native is in his fifth season of professional hockey, and has ranked in the Central Hockey League's top-10 in goals against average each of the last three years.

Beech was named the CHL's Most Outstanding Goaltender in 2009, leading the league with 35 wins while playing for the Mississippi RiverKings. The 24-year old backstop also finished fourth that season with a 2.44 goals against average. Beech joins the Thunder with career marks of 3.37 and .901 in 159 professional games.

Beech played four years of Major Juniors in the OHL before turning pro in 2007 with the AHL's Springfield Falcons. A former sixth round draft pick by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2005, Beech has seen time in the CHL with Laredo, Youngstown, Mississippi, Corpus Christi, and Texas.

Beech is expected to be in uniform this weekend, beginning Friday night versus Rio Grande Valley.

Earlier in the week, goaltender Marty Magers was suspended three games by the CHL as a result of last Saturday's game at Fort Wayne. Defenseman Jason Goulet and forward Robin Richards were each suspended two games.
