
Bucks Fall in Shootout, 4-3

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Odessa Jackalopes 4-3 in a shootout Thursday afternoon in their annual McDonald's kid's day game, in front of a season-high 6,523 fans at Laredo Energy Arena. The Bucks picked up a point to move ahead of Rio Grande Valley for the final playoff spot in the Berry Conference but fall to 16-22-7 (39 points).
Matt Gems scored the game-winning goal in the fifth round of the shootout to help the Jackalopes snap a six-game losing streak. The goal was Gems' first of the season.
David McKee stopped 34 of 37 shots and set aside four of five Laredo shootout attempts for the Jackalopes.
Jeff Bes scored two goals to lead the Bucks who fall to 10-3-1 all-time in kid's day games (9-2-1 at home).
The Bucks scored first for the first time in three games as Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel scored from the point with the Bucks on the power-play just 2:58 into the game. Dieude-Fauvel returned to the lineup Thursday after missing the Bucks last 10 games with an injury.
The Jackalopes would tie the game at 1-1 just 54 seconds later when Mike Lesperance tipped in a pass from Sebastien Thinel with Odessa on the man-advantage. The goal was Lesperance's ninth of the season.
Laredo would go up 2-1 at the 8:35 mark of the first when Bes hammered a one-timer from the slot off of a pass from Daniel Koger. Bes, the reigning CHL player of the week, picked up his 18th goal of the season.
Odessa would tie at 2-2 with 5:21 left in the first when Mark Ehl buried a rebound from the bottom of the slot to pick up his second of the campaign.
Odessa outshot Laredo 13-12 in the first period.
Neither team scored in the second period as the game was tied at 2-2 after 40 minutes of play with Odessa failing to take advantage of two breakaway attempts in the second.
Each team put up nine shots in the period.
Kenny Corupe put the Jackalopes up 3-2 just 4:31 into the third when he jammed home a rebound to pick up his 16th of the year.
Bes tied the game at 3-3 with 9:59 left in the third when scored on a pretty give and go with Neil Trimm on two-on-none break. The goal was Bes' second of the game and his 19th of the season.
The Bucks outshot the Jackalopes 11-5 in the third period.
Neither team scored in overtime with the Bucks outshooting the Jackalopes 5-1.
Laredo outshot Odessa 37-31 in the game.
Torrie Jung stopped 27 of 30 shots for the Bucks.
The Bucks played with a full lineup, 16 skaters and two goaltenders, for the first time in 11 games due to a rash of injuries.

Saturday February 12th the Bucks will host their first-ever Pucks for Autism night when Laredo hosts Bossier-Shreveport at Laredo Energy Arena.
