Dayton Gems Fall To Flint Generals 3-1

November 27, 2009 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2) - Dayton Gems News Release


Tonight the Dayton Gems lost against the Flint Generals with a score of 3-1. Both teams furiously fought for the puck in the first period, but Flint Generals Brandon Gentile and John Mori both scored on power plays, leaving the Gems with 2 -0 by the first intermission. Early into the second period, the Gems' Mike Vaskivuo scored Dayton's only goal assisted by Jon Ornelas, leaving them only one point behind. During the final period both teams fought on but ultimately Brandon Gentile of the Generals scored another goal and the game as the Generals beat the Gems. With this loss the standings for the Dayton Gems are now 7-7-3-0.

Next Saturday, December 5th at Brookville's Westbrook Elementary Santa will have a new helper this year. The annual Breakfast with Santa will find our mascot, Blade, enjoying breakfast and helping Santa pass out the gifts. Canned goods will be collected and donated to the Brookville F.I.S.H. food pantry

That evening at 7:30pm as the Gems attempt to slay the Ft Wayne Komets join us we salute Gem Moe Benoit. Moe's number will be retired. Fans of the original Gems are invited to join us and pay tribute to his career. That evening is also "Kill the Komets" night and fans 12 and under will receive complimentary official Gems pom poms to cheer the team on.

Sunday, December 6th at 5pm the Gems take on The Port Huron Ice Hawks and it'll be time for the Teddy Bear toss. When the Gems score their 1st goal it's time to toss your Teddy. Cutest Bear Contest - Top 5 cutest Teddy Bears will receive prizes so be sure and pin you name to your Bear. Bring along a Teddy and we'll donate him to a good girl or boy throughToys for Tots and The Ronald McDonald House.
