Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Fort Wayne TinCaps (affiliate of the San Diego Padres) in the fourth game of a six-game series. The Dragons are 7-2 on the current 12-game homestand. They have won the first three games of the series with Fort Wayne.

Last Game: Thursday: Dayton 2, Fort Wayne 0. Graham Ashcraft (5 ip), Spencer Stockton (3 ip), and Pedro Garcia (1 ip) combined on a three-hit shutout. Jose Tello hit a first inning home run and Victor Ruiz had an RBI triple in the second on a line drive that was lost in the sun by the right fielder. Jacob Hurtubise had two hits among the five for the Dragons. The game was played in two hours, 20 minutes, 23 minutes shorter than the shortest game of the season before last night.

Comeback Kids: June 8 and 9, the Dragons won two games in two nights despite trailing by five or more runs in each game. They had six such comebacks in the last five years (697 games), averaging 1.2 comebacks per season in games when trailing by five or more runs. The June 8 win after trailing 7-0 matched the largest comeback for the Dragons over at least the last 15 seasons. Records on comebacks date back to 2006. The Dragons have battled back to win five times after trailing by at least four runs since May 18. Over the last five years, they averaged 2.2 wins per season when trailing by at least four runs. The Dragons have won eight games in 2021 after trailing by at least three runs, compared to the five-year average of 5.6 per season. The Dragons have not lost a game that they led by three runs or more this season.

Player Notes

Miguel Hernandez had a 10-game hitting streak snapped last night. He is batting .395 over his last 11 games, raising his average from .232 to .276. Over his last six games, Hernandez is 10 for 20 (.500).

Francisco Urbaez over his last 16 games is 21 for 57 (.368) with a .920 OPS. Over those games, he has raised his batting average from .207 to .314. Urbaez would be tied for second in the league in batting average, but he is nine plate appearances short of qualifying (min. 2.7/game).

James Free is batting .308 over his last eight games.

Reliever Braxton Roxby has not allowed a run in 14.2 innings, surrendering just four hits and eight walks. He has struck out 25. Opponents have combined to hit just .083 (4 for 48) against Roxby on the year.

Reliever Francis Peguero has allowed only one run in 12.1 innings (0.73 ERA), allowing just seven hits and two walks.

Graham Ashcraft over his last four starts has allowed just one unearned run in 23 innings, lowering his ERA from 5.74 to 2.33. Ashcraft is third in the league in both ERA and strikeouts and tied for first in victories (4).

Noah Davis over his last two starts has allowed just one run in 10 innings. He leads the league in opponent's batting average at .177.

Andy Fisher over his last three appearances has tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits with nine strikeouts.

Team Notes

The Dragons will try tonight to match a season-high four-game winning streak, set June 8-11 against Great Lakes.

Dayton is in first place, two games ahead of Lake County in the High-A Central League East Division.

Dayton has held at least a share of first place after 29 of the 39 games they have played this season. The have not been lower than second place in the standings and have not been more than one and one-half games out of first at any time this season.

The Dragons are seven games over the .500 mark for the first time since July 8, 2017, when they were 47-40.

The Dragons have won 11 of their last 15 home games. Their home record is 14-7. They have come from behind in eight of the 14 wins.
