Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) host the Peoria Chiefs (affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals) at Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District. This is the third game of a six-game series. Season Series: Dayton 1, Peoria 1.

Last Game: Wednesday: Dayton 14, Peoria 5. The Dragons matched a season-high for runs in a game while belting four home runs. Noelvi Marte hit two homers in just his second game with the Dragons. Austin Hendrick had a home run and four RBI. Brian Rey had four hits and scored four times. Garrett Wolforth also had a home run. The Dragons were 5 for 12 with runners in scoring position.

Welcome Aboard: On Wednesday, the Dragons received left-handed starting pitcher Steven Hajjar, who was acquired from the Twins in the trade involving major league pitcher Tyler Mahle. Hajjar was the Twins second round draft pick in 2021 out of the University of Michigan. On Tuesday, the Dragons received blue-chip prospect Noelvi Marte, who was acquired from the Mariners in the trade involving MLB all-star Luis Castillo. MLB.com has slotted Marte as the Reds #1 prospect, while Baseball America has him ranked #2, behind Elly De La Cruz. Last week, the Dragons received starting pitcher Chase Petty from Single-A Daytona. Petty was acquired in spring training from the Twins for MLB all-star Sonny Gray. Petty was the Twins first round draft pick in 2021.

The Dragons have scored 42 runs over their last six games (7.0 runs per game). They averaged 3.2 runs per game in July. Their team batting average of .199 in July was the second lowest in the minors. With runners in scoring position in July, the Dragons batted .167 (26 for 156).

The Dayton bullpen has allowed only two runs over the last four games covering 23.2 innings.

Dayton has hit 116 home runs, the most they have hit in a season since 2008 when they hit 120. The Dragons are on a pace to hit 157 on the year (130-game season). The club record is 144 in 2001 in a 139-game season.
