Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release
Leader of the Pack: The Yard Dawgz remain the #1 ranked offense in the af2 with an average of 320 yards/game and the #1 pass offense.
The Graduate: WR Danny Howard returned to the starting lineup against the Dorados. Howard caught 7 balls for 98 yards and 1 TD. Howard remains among the elite receivers in the league with 75 receptions for 1046 yards and 22 TD's. Howard becomes just the 5th player in team history to surpass 1,000 yard receiving in a season, joining Timon Marshall (2004), Kris Peters (2004), Jarrail Jackson (2005 & 2006) and Al Hunt (2004 & 2006).
King of the Hill: QB Stan Hill threw for over 300 yards for the 5th time this season. Hill completed 28 of 39 pass attempts for 328 yards, 4 TD's and 1 interception. Hill ranks 1st in passing yards/game and 1st in total offense. Hill's 109.0 passer rating puts him 10th in the league. Hill also set the team record with 13 interceptions thrown this season. The previous record was held by Craig Strickland with 11.
The Hunt Is On: There are no signs of WR/DB Al Hunt slowing down. The veteran wideout grabbed 11 passes for 141 yards and 2 TD against the Dorados. Hunt has caught 25 balls the past two games. Hunt added a rushing TD and is now 10 points away from being the 5th player ever to score 800 points in a career. Hunt is also 136 receiving yards away from being the 6th player to reach 5,000 yards receiving and 2 receptions away from being the 5th player to catch 350 passes in a career. Earlier this season, Hunt became the 9th player to score 100 TDs, the 14th to reach the 4,000 receiving yards mark and the 7th player in af2 history to score 700 point in a career.
Up Front: Barry Giles, Gene Frederic, Claude Davis, Zack Condo and fullback Michael Tolbert have been a solid wall of protection for QB Stan Hill so far this season. The offensive line has allowed just 8 sacks this season (2nd in af2).
Larry Hayden: Hayden continues to become more involved as the season progresses. The FB/LB made .5 tackles and recovered a fumble. Hayden also scored his fourth rushing TD of the season. Since taking over at LB in Week 3, Hayden has 30.5 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries.
Dawg Pound: The Dawgz return to Compassionate Care Hospice Field at the Ford Center on Saturday, June 30 to avenge their season opening loss to the Florida Firecats.
Road Dawgz: The Yard Dawgz dropped their second game of a two game road trip 63-52 to the Dorados. The Dawgz are now 3-4 on the road with their final road game Monday, July 16 against the Conference leading Tulsa Talons.
Playoff Carousel: The battle for the ArenaCup has begun. Sixteen of the 30 af2 teams will play themselves into the postseason tournament. The top eight teams from the American and National Conferences will be selected. If the playoffs started today, the Yard Dawgz would be the 7th seed in the National Conference.
Flag on the Play: Penalties continued to haunt the Yard Dawgz against Rio Grande Valley. The Dawgz were penalized 15 times for 71 yards. The fifth most penalized team in the league averages 10 penalties/game for an average of 70 yards.
Red River Rivalry: The two Oklahoma teams in the af2, Oklahoma City and Tulsa, are a combined 10-1 against the Texas contingent (Amarillo, Corpus Christi, Laredo, Lubbock, Rio Grande Valley and Texas) this season. The Yard Dawgz are 13-5 all-time against Texas teams.
