Davidson Dominates Blue Wahoos in Opener
July 18, 2019 - Southern League (SL1)
Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS - Tucker Davidson (W, 4-6) matched a career-high with 8.0 shutout innings on Thursday night in the Mississippi's 1-0 win over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (11-16, 49-48) at Trustmark Park.
The shutout win in the homestand opener was the second-straight for the M-Braves (11-16, 44-52) after blanking Jacksonville on Tuesday, 5-0. The 1 hour, 54-minute game duration matched the club record for the shortest game in team history.
Davidson needed just 97 pitches to earn his fourth win of 2019, dealing 64 strikes. The 23-year-old left-hander faced the minimum through six innings and retired 15 straight batters after giving up a one-out first-inning single to Alex Kirlilloff.
Davidson struck out the side in the third inning to become the third M-Braves pitcher to log his 100th strikeout this season. He left his 18th start with a league-best 2.04 ERA and ranks tied for fifth in strikeouts with 104.
The Braves handed Davidson a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning. Greyson Jenista punched a double down the left-field line with one out and with two outs, Carlos Martinez singled up the middle to give Mississippi the lead. The two fifth inning hits were the only knocks the M-Braves had against Pensacola starter Randy Dobnak (L, 4-2). The 24-year-old struck out nine over a complete game, 8.0 innings of one-run baseball in the loss.
Jordan Harrison (S, 1) took over for Davidson in the ninth and surrendered two hits but induced a game-ending 6-4-3 double play from Lewin Diaz to pick up his first M-Braves save.
Trey Harris was 0-for-2 in his Double-A debut, after being promoted to Mississippi from Florida on Thursday afternoon.
The M-Braves will go for a third-straight win on Friday night at Trustmark Park. RHP Ian Anderson (6-5, 2.91) starts for the Braves against Pensacola LHP Charlie Barnes (2-2, 3.40). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm CT with coverage beginning at 6:20 pm on 103.9 FM, First Pitch App. and TuneIn Radio. The game will also be streamed on MiLB.tv (subscription required).
