Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (APRIL 14, 2010) - The Dash bats exploded for 13 runs over the final four innings on Wednesday night as Winston-Salem scored a 13-4 victory over the Potomac Nationals at BB&T Ballpark. Seven Dash players posted multi-hit games as the team dug out of an early 3-0 deficit to even its record at 3-3 on the season. Drew Garcia led the way with a 3 for 5 night at the plate and four RBI.

Potomac (2-4) took an early lead with a pair of runs in the first inning off Winston starter Justin Edwards. Michael Burgess drove in one with a fielder's choice while another run came home when Josh Phegley threw a ball into left field on a Steve Lombardozzi stolen base attempt of third.

The Nationals increased their lead to 3-0 after a Burgess RBI double in the third inning.

Winston-Salem's offense was on snooze through the first four innings, totaling just two hits and no runs against P-Nats starter Marcos Frias. In the fifth, the Dash snapped a nine-inning scoreless drought dating back to the seventh inning on Tuesday night.

Kenny Williams, Jr. doubled to left and reached third on a Kyle Shelton grounder to shortstop. Shelton reached after Jose Lozada failed to retire Williams at third base, putting men on the corners with two outs. Two batters later, Justin Greene singled to center, scoring Williams and giving the Dash its first run. After Brandon Short reached on an infield single, Eduardo Escobar tied the game with a two run double.

Winston struck for three more in the sixth inning. With Jon Gilmore at second and one out, Shelton singled off Potomac reliever Cory VanAllen (0-1). Garcia hit an RBI single to put the Dash ahead 4-3 before Justin Greene doubled home two more runs. Winston-Salem took a 6-4 lead after six innings.

The P-Nats got one of those runs back in the seventh when Tim Pahuta hit a solo home run to right field off Dan Remenowsky, the first homer at BB&T Ballpark.

The home team did not relent in the bottom half however, as the Dash piled on four more runs against Potomac reliever Luis Garcia. Winston-Salem batted around as five Dash players posted hits including RBI knocks from Gilmore, Garcia, and Short, while Greene walked with the bases loaded.

Winston-Salem batted around again in the ninth and picked up three more runs en route to the 13-4 win. Remenowsky (1-0) pitched two innings to pick up the win while VanAllen gave up three runs in one inning of work and took the loss.

In addition to Garcia, Greene also collected three hits and two RBI, while Short drove in three runs on the night. Every Dash player had a hit and seven picked up at least one RBI. With the 18-hit barrage, Winston-Salem's team batting average went up 42 points to .276 on the season.

The offensive explosion was remarkable given what the team had done in its first five games. Prior to Wednesday's game, the Dash had scored 17 runs all season combined before posting a baker's dozen against the P-Nats.

The Dash and Nationals play the rubber game of the three-game series on Thursday at 7 p.m. Nate Jones (0-1, 1.93) makes his second start for the Dash against Potomac right-hander Brad Peacock (0-1, 7.20).

The webcast pre-game show begins at 6:45 on www.wsdash.com.
