THE HILLCATS: Last night the Hillcats fell 2-1 in the opening game of a three-game series with the Red Sox and the Cats have now dropped three games in a row after winning the first two games of the season...Today is the middle-game of the three-game series with the Red Sox and the sixth game of a seven-game homestand for the Cats...
VS. SALEM: The Hillcats went 10-10 against the Red Sox in the 460 series last season and were 5-5 at Calvin Falwell Field...In the post-season the Cats swept the Sox three games to none in the Mills Cup Championship...In the all-time series Salem leads 156-137 during the regular season, and they are 67-79 in the Hill City after their win last night...
RIVALRY RENEWED: This series marks the rematch of the 2009 Mills Cup Championship Series...The Hillcats swept the Red Sox three game to none to capture the 2009 Carolina League crown...Last season was the first time the two teams met with the league title on the line and it was the third time they met in post-season play...The Lynchburg White Sox defeated the Salem Rebels in 1968 in a one-game playoff...In 1988 the Lynchburg Red Sox defeated the Salem Buccaneers two games to one in the NDCS...

STARTING OUT STRONG: Thus far this season the Hillcats starters have a combined record of 2-1 with a 1.42 ERA (four earned runs in 25 and 1/3 innings)...Last night RHP Lance Janke allowed just two runs in six innings, but took the tough luck loss...He was the first Cats starter that has allowed more than one run in a start...
OUTSIDE THE BOX: RHP Brad Boxberger made his official professional debut Saturday night and allowed just one run on two hits and struck out seven in five innings of work...The supplemental first round pick from a year ago (43rd overall selection) struggled in the prestigious Arizona Fall League this off-season, going 1-1 with an 11.37 ERA with the Peoria Saguaras...This after an outstanding season at USC in which he posted a 6-3 mark with a 3.16 ERA in 14 starts...
NEW KIDS IN TOWN: This season the Hillcats are the minor league affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds for the first time ever...It is the first season since 1994 that the Cats have not been affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pirates...The Reds are the tenth different Major League team that has been the parent club to Lynchburg...Over the last 34 seasons Lynchburg has only has only been affiliated with three different teams (New York Mets, Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates)...None of the players on the Hillcats roster had ever played in the Carolina League...

TODAY'S OPPOSING PITCHERS: RHP Brock Huntzinger was selected by the Red Sox in the third round of the 2007 draft out of high school in Indiana...That same year he worked four games (three starts) for the GCL Red Sox and went 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA...The next year he pitched for both Short Season Low-A Lowell and full season Low-A Greenville...With Lowell he went 5-0 with a 0.64 ERA and with Greenville he had a 2-3 mark with a 7.09 ERA...Last season he returned to Greenville where he had a 10-9 record with a 4.09 ERA in 25 starts with the Drive...This season he has made one start for Salem and he allowed one run in four and 2/3 innings of work in a no-decision against Potomac...
