Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem Dash fell in game five against the Asheville Tourists 11-3.
After a scoreless first two innings, the Asheville lineup erupted in the top of the third. Kenedy Corona and Colin Barber both drew one-out walks. Later, they stole second and third base while Michael Sandle struck out swinging for the second out. Zach Daniels worked a walk after that, to load the bases. A wild pitch to Joey Loperfido allowed Corona to score the first run of the game, before Loperfido singled to drive Barber home. Next, Christian Gonzalez launched a ground-rule double into right field to plate Daniels, and put the Tourists ahead 3-0. The inning kept rolling with a two-run single by Tim Borden, which put Asheville up 5-0.
The Tourists extended their lead in the fifth inning, as Joey Loperfido drew a walk with one man gone. Christian Gonzalez singled after that, and a defensive miscue allowed Loperfido to come all the way around to score from first base. Tim Borden then crushed a two-run home run onto the left field concourse, putting Asheville up 8-0. They went on to add another run in the top of the sixth.
Winston-Salem battled back in the home half of the sixth. Alsander Womack and Ben Norman both drew walks, then Colby Smelley drove them both in on a RBI single to put the Dash on the board, albeit still trailing 9-2.
The Tourists plated two more runs in the top of the eighth, when Joey Loperfido lined a two-run double into the right field corner.
Winston-Salem put up one more run in the top of the ninth, but they wound up falling to Asheville 11-3. Edinson Batista took the win on his record, with Luis Moncada getting the loss.
