Dash Prevents Cats Sweep in Finale

The Dash salvaged a win in their three-game series against the Hillcats with a 7-4 win on Monday night at BB&T Ballpark. Winston-Salem plated four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on two long balls to take the lead for good in the last game of the set.

Winston-Salem plated the first run and took their first lead of the series with a run in the bottom of the first inning. After a one-out triple by Eduardo Escobar, Jon Gilmore singled him in to score the first run of the game. Lynchburg answered with a run of their own in the top of the third inning. A two-out RBI triple by Felix Perez plated Brodie Greene and knotted up the game at one a piece.

The Dash would regain the lead though in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of runs. Logan Johnson put them back in front with an RBI single and Luis Sierra made it a 3-1 Lynchburg lead with a sacrifice fly.

The Hillcats would rally again in the top of the seventh inning off of the 13th overall pick in this years draft, lefty Chris Sale. The Cats plated a pair in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at three a piece. Brodie Greene and Carlos Mendez both smacked RBI singles in the frame to give Sale a blown save and tie the contest.

In the bottom of the eighth inning Winston-Salem too the lead for good. A solo home run by Logan Johnson put the Dash in front 4-3 and a three-run blast by Brandon Short made it a 7-3 game. Lynchburg would score a run in the ninth inning on the sacrifice fly by Carlos Mendez, but would fall short in their rally and fall 7-4 in the series finale.

The loss went to Nick Christiani (1-2) for Lynchburg (7-11, 36-52) and the win went to Kyle Bellamy (5-0) for Winston-Salem (11-7, 54-34). Despite the loss, the Hillcats became just the second team this season to earn a series victory over the Dash at BB&T Ballpark.

After an off-day on Tuesday, the Cats are back in action at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday night with game one of a four-game series at Myrtle Beach against the Pelicans. Right-hander Jordan Hotchkiss (5-3, 2,58) is slated to start for the Green & Gold opposite righty Zeke Spruill (0-1, 9.00) for the Birds. tune-in for all the live action on 105.5 FM KD County and on the web at lynchurg-hillcats.com.
