Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (SEPTEMBER 7, 2010) - Today the Dash finalized its playoff roster and starting pitching rotation for the playoff series against the Kinston Indians that begins tomorrow night. OF Trayce Thompson has been promoted from low-A Kannapolis to fill Winston-Salem's open roster spot.
The White Sox selected Thompson with their second round draft pick in 2009 (61st overall). In 58 games with the Intimidators this season, he hit .229 with eight home runs, 13 doubles, three triples, and 31 RBI. He missed nearly three months after breaking his right thumb, returning to Kannapolis on August 18.
Thompson entered the season ranked by Baseball America as the sixth-best prospect in the White Sox' minor league system. He is the son of former NBA forward/center Mychal Thompson, who was selected first overall by the Portland Trailblazers in the 1978 draft. Trayce Thompson played basketball in addition to baseball in high school for Santa Margarita (CA) and won the 2008 state Division III championship. He stopped playing basketball after that season to focus on baseball. He was committed to attending UCLA on a baseball scholarship before signing with Chicago.
Winston's roster has reached the Carolina League limit of 25 players.
The playoffs begin on Wednesday night when the Dash hosts the Kinston Indians at BB&T Ballpark. The Dash will host games one, two, and five (if necessary) and the Indians will host games three and four. The first four games will begin at 7 p.m. and game five will start at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
