Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Wilmington, DE - The Carolina League announced today that Wilmington Blue Rocks hurler Aaron Crow has been named the league's final Pitcher of the Week on the 2010 season for the period ranging from Aug. 30-Sept. 5. It marks the ninth time a Rock has been honored by the league office this season. Michael Montgomery, Alex Caldera, John Lamb and Bryan Paukovits claimed CL Pitcher of the Week laurels in 2010 as well, with Montgomery grabbing that honor twice in a row to begin the year. Third baseman Jamie Romak took Player of the Week accolades three times during June and July. No other Carolina League team has claimed as many weekly honors as the Blue Rocks.
Crow made one start in the week, but it was the best of his young professional career. The former Mizzou star struck out a career-best 13 while walking none over 6.2 scoreless innings for a win against Myrtle Beach. The Pelicans mustered just three hits against the hard-throwing righty.
In seven starts as a Blue Rock after a demotion from Double-A Northwest Arkansas, the first-year pro struck out 53 in 44.0 innings and walked only six for an average of nearly 11 strikeouts per nine innings and a nearly 9:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Frederick's Tyler Townsend, a Delaware native and former Cape Henlopen H.S. star, claimed the season's final Player of the Week award.
The Blue Rocks return to the field on April 8, 2011 as they open their season in Myrtle Beach, SC against the Pelicans. The full 2011 schedule will be announced later this off-season.
