WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem Dash fell 9-6 to the Bowling Green Hot Rods after a late-inning comeback.

Winston-Salem manufactured a run in the bottom of the first inning. Duke Ellis dropped down a bunt single, then Colson Montgomery reached base on a catcher's interference call. The third batter of the inning, Bryan Ramos, dropped a single into left field to score Ellis which put the Dash in front 1-0.

Chase Solesky followed up his 1-2-3 first inning with more stellar work. The Tulane product retired Bowling Green in order in the second, third, and fourth innings. Although his counterpart on the mound, lefthander Ben Brecht, also held the Winston-Salem lineup in check apart from the lone run in the first inning.

In the top of the fifth, Bowling Green finally broke through against Solesky. Johan Lopez picked up a two-out single. Then, Tyler Frank laced a two-strike double to knot the game at 1-1.

Winston-Salem had a response right away, in the home half of the fifth. Although the first two batters struck out swinging, Ellis walked and stole second base, then Montgomery walked behind him. After a mound visit, Bryan Ramos smoked a line drive into center field that Mason Auer misplayed. Both Ellis and Montgomery scored, with Ramos hustling all the way to third base. Luis Mieses ripped a ground rule double after that to push Ramos across, then Tyler Osik replaced Mieses on second with a double of his own. It was a four-run frame for the Dash, as they pulled ahead 5-1.

Adam Hackenberg then lead off the bottom of the sixth inning with a long solo home run to make it a 6-1 game.

After neither club scored in the seventh, Bowling Green rallied in the eighth. Tyler Frank got hit by a pitch to start the inning, then Luis Leon singled. A groundout pushed Frank to third base, then a walk to Alika Williams loaded the bases. Auer plated Frank with a sacrifice fly, then a walk to Logan Driscoll loaded the bases again. Heriberto Hernandez worked another walk to push a run across and make it a 6-3 Dash advantage. Following another mound visit, Matt Dyer slapped the first pitch he saw off of Karan Patel's leg, and two runs scored to cut the lead to 6-5 Dash. Skyler Arias entered after Patel, but he walked Johan Lopez then fired a wild pitch that allowed Hernandez to score and tie the game. Frank, in his second at-bat of the inning, singled to left field to plate both Dyer and Lopez, which saw the Hot Rods pull ahead 8-6.

Bowling Green added another run on a Mason Auer solo blast in the top of the ninth. The Dash were unable to string together a comeback, as the Hot Rods snagged a 9-6 win. Evan Reifert was the winner for Bowling Green, with Kyle Whitten locking down the save, and Karan Patel suffered the loss.
