WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Behind a quality start from Tanner Banks and an impressive night from the Dash offense, Winston-Salem defeated Carolina 11-3 in Saturday's regularly-scheduled game at BB&T Ballpark.

Banks (4-2), who has now rattled off five straight quality starts, pitched six innings and allowed just three runs on three hits while striking out a career-high 10 batters in the contest. Over his last five outings, Banks is 4-0 with a 2.08 ERA.

Winston-Salem (31-25) went ahead early with a run in the bottom of the first inning. After Joel Booker led off the frame with a single to center field against Carolina starter Nathan Kirby (0-4), Mitch Roman stroked a double down the left-field line to score Booker and put the Dash up 1-0.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Dash proceeded to add on two more runs. After Yermin Mercedes led off the frame with a single to right field, Zach Remillard drew a walk. While Mercedes was thrown out at home on a fielder's choice grounder from Ti'Quan Forbes, Booker followed with a two-run single to left to put Winston-Salem ahead by three.

Then, with two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Mudcats pitcher Braulio Ortiz, who replaced Kirby in the bottom of the third, issued four straight walks to Booker, Roman, Alex Call and Micker Adolfo, the fourth of which walked in a run for the Dash.

The next batter, Blake Rutherford, proceeded to drive in two more with a double to right center. Mercedes then capped the inning with his second home run of the day, a two-run shot to left field to make it a 9-0 contest.

In the top of the fifth, though, the Mudcats recorded their first hit against Banks, as Luis Aviles Jr. singled to lead off the inning. Banks struck out the next two batters, but, after Cooper Hummel drew a walk, Carlos Belonis singled to drive in the first run for Carolina. Dallas Carroll followed with a two-run double to left, the last hit Banks would allow.

However, the Dash quickly responded with two more runs in the bottom of the frame. Nate Nolan, Forbes and Booker recorded three straight singles to lead off the inning, and Roman followed with an infield single to bring home Nolan. Forbes then proceeded to score on a sacrifice fly from Call.

After six innings of work, Banks was replaced by right-hander Blake Hickman, who pitched a scoreless seventh inning to complete the victory.

Winston-Salem's series with Carolina will conclude on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at BB&T Ballpark. Right-hander Dylan Cease (6-2, 2.96 ERA) will get the start for the Dash against right-hander Braden Webb (3-3, 4.26 ERA). The series finale against the Muddies will be televised locally on My48 (WXLV), while coverage on wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio app will begin at 1:45 p.m.

The Dash will sport "Winston-Salem Rayados" on Sunday as part of Minor League Baseball's "Copa de la Diversion", or "Fun Cup," a season-long event series specifically designed to embrace the culture and values that resonate most with participating teams' local Hispanic/Latino communities. "Rayados" translates to "the Striped Ones," and is born out of a collaboration with the baseball team and the Hispanic League of Winston-Salem. The name recalls the pinstripes worn from previous Winston-Salem teams, and the term "Rayo" also loosely translates to "Bolt," the Dash's mascot.

Winston-Salem will sport a white jersey with red and blue stripes and "Winston-Salem Rayados" written on the front. For tickets and more information, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
