Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Jean-Michel Daoust netted a pair of third period goals to propel the Cincinnati Cyclones to a 5-3 win over the Dayton Bombers Saturday night at U.S. Bank Arena. The win gives Cincinnati a three-games-to-one edge in the North Division finals.

The Cyclones opened the scoring 17:54 into the first period when right wing Mike Wirll broke loose in the neutral zone, worked past a Dayton defenseman and buried the puck past Bombers netminder Adam Berkhoel. It was Wirll's third of the postseason, as Barett Ehgoetz and Nick Martens added the assists. The shots on goal in the first frame favored the Cyclones, 15-8.

The second period saw Cincinnati extend its lead to 2-0 when Greg Stewart hopped out of the penalty box and scored a breakaway goal at 35 seconds. Sam Ftorek had the assist on the goal. The lead went to 3-0 when Wirll collected his second dof the night and fourth of the playoffs at 1:43, as Ehgoetz had the assist on the goal.

Dayton got its first goal of the night at 5:41 of the frame when Trevor Frischmon tallied his second of the postseason, as Lane Manson and Joe Cullen added the assists. The Bombers closed the deficit to one, 3-2, at 7:22 when Petr Pohl netted his first of the playoffs at 7:22. Paul Kelly added the assist on the score. The shots favored Dayton, 17-15, in the frame.

In the third period, Jean-Michel Daoust scored his second of the playoffs at 4:10 to extend the lead to 4-2. Conrad Martin and Scott Reynolds added the assists on the score. Dayton closed the gap back to 4-3, as Jeff Hristovski, who scored the game winner last night, got his third of the playoffs at 9:33. Scott Ford and Pohl collected the assists. Daoust closed out the scoring with his second of the night and third of the playoffs at 17:58-scoring on a backhander-as Rory Rawlyk and Ftorek picked up the assists on the power play goal.

Cedrick Desjardins stopped 28 shots in picking up his sixth win of the postseason. Dayton was zero-for-seven on the power play, while Cincinnati was one-for-five. The shots on goal favored Cincinnati 40-31.

The Cyclones now lead the best-of-seven series, three games to one, with the fifth game scheduled for Monday night (April 30) at U.S. Bank Arena at 7:30pm. Cincinnati has already upset Toledo, the second place team in the North, and looks to eliminate the regular season champion Bombers in that contest. The North Division playoff champion advances to play the South Division champion (either Florida or Texas) for the American Conference championship in the next round.

Should Dayton win the fifth game on Monday, games six and seven would be played at the Nutter Center next Wednesday (May 2) and/or Thursday (May 3) at 7pm each night.
