
Danville Splits Twin Bill with Burlington

DANVILLE, VA- The D-Braves remain alive in the playoff hunt, splitting a double header with the Burlington Royals, lose first game 3-1, take game two 2-1. Pitchers duels ruled the night in the twin bill at American Legion Post 325 Field, as neither team scored more than three runs in either contest.
In game one the Royals would score two unearned runs to take an early 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Royals' right fielder Tanner Stanley would reach on a fielding error by Braves first baseman Juan Yepez. Royals' lead-off hitter Brian Bien would then single to left field moving Stanley to second with one out in the inning. Brandon Dulin would then send a ground ball to first and Yepez would again have a fielding error allowing two runs to score.
The Royals would add another run in the top of the fifth inning, as Stanley would lead off the inning with a single to left center field. Stanley was then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brien. Center fielder Ben Johnson would then single home Stanley to extend the Royals lead to 3-0.
Braves would answer back in the bottom of the sixth inning as back to back singles by Ray Didder and Jose Morel would start things off for the Braves. Kurt Hoekstra would then single home Didder to make the score 3-1, however, Morel was thrown out at home plate trying to advance on a miscue in the outfield.
Danville would take game two as the Braves scored two in the bottom of the fourth inning after the Royals scored in the top of the second. For the Royals in the top of the second inning, designated hitter Brandon Thomasson would double to right center field. Thomasson would score on an error by Hoekstra on a ball hit up the middle by Colton Frabasilio.
Danville would take the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Austin Riley would get the inning started with a single up the middle. Hoekstra would then ground into a fielder's choice, with Riley being thrown out at second base. Braves first baseman Jeff Campbell would single to right field advancing Hoekstra to second with two outs in the inning. Didder would then clear the bases as he triples to dead center field clearing the bases and giving the D-Braves a 2-1 lead and eventual win.
The D-Braves will look to win the four game series against Burlington tomorrow at 7 pm. On the mound for Danville will be Ryan Clark. At the time of publication the Royals had not designated a starter for the game. Saturday will also be a Koozie give away night, First 500 fans will receive a koozie courtesy of G & G Towing.
