Greeneville Astros News Release
Pulaski, VA - The Greeneville Astros lost the series with Pulaski Yankees after a 5-0 defeat Friday night. Following the loss, the Astros' record drops to 26-24 on the season while the Yankees' rises to 30-21. Matt Bower received the loss for the Astros while Adonis Rosa picked up the win for the Yankees.
The Astros' bats were shut down by a dominant performance from the Yankees' pitching staff. Three pitchers combined to strikeout a total of 16 Greeneville batters without allowing a man to cross home. While the Astros did have six hits in the ballgame, they were never able to piece together a run.
Matt Bower started the game for the Astros on the mound. He pitched for three innings while allowing four runs to score and striking out three. Bower's ERA on the season rises to 3.75 after the loss and his season record moves to 1-1.
The Yankees jumped out to a quick start by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning thanks to five singles and a double. However, Bower was able to regain his composure on the mound and did not allow another run to score across his next two innings of work.
Pulaski was limited to just one more run, which came across on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning with Joselo Pinales on the mound. Pinales allowed just the one run while striking out one in his two innings pitched.
Andrew Thome entered to pitch the remaining three innings of the ballgame and was lights out, giving up only one hit and striking out one.
Randy Cesar led the Astros offensively, collecting two of the team's six hits. His season batting average now sits at .248.
The Astros will look to avoid a sweep on the road Saturday night as they take on the Yankees in game three of the series in Pulaski. Game time will be at 7:00 PM. The Astros will then return home for a three game series with the Johnson City Cardinals beginning on Sunday, August 16th.
