The Princeton Rays get the Mercer Cup as they beat the Bluefield Blue Jays, 7-2, on August 14 at Hunnicutt Field. Princeton scored first with one run in the first inning, two in the third, one in the seventh, and three in the eighth. Bluefield scored two runs in the seventh. The winning pitcher was Blake Bivens, for the Rays, and Ty Jackson got the save. The losing pitcher, for the Blue Jays, was Dalton Rodriguez.
In the Appalachian League East, the Rays are second, at 29-22, behind Pulaski. The Bluefield Blue Jays are last in the East at 20-30.
In the first inning, Landon Cray scored off of a single by Blair Beck, for the Rays. Princeton put two more runs on the board in the third. Cray and Peter Maris made it home from a triple by Beck. Bluefield scored two in the seventh. Freddy Rodriguez scored from a single by Matt Morgan. Morgan made it home with a wild pitch by Garrett Fulenchek. In the seventh, for the Rays, Jose Rojas hit a home run. The Rays were not done yet; they put three more runs on the board in the eighth. Beck and Sullivan scored from a triple by David Olmedo-Barrera. Olmedo-Barrera made it home from a wild pitch by Jackson Lowery.
