Bristol, VA- The Bristol White Sox put an end to the D-Braves five game winning streak on Sunday night. Billy Beckwith launched a two run homerun in the D-Braves half of the 12th inning, but the White Sox were able to score three in a heartbreaking, 8-7 loss for Danville.
The night was looking promising for the most part. The D-Braves held a lead for the majority of the game. In the third inning, the two teams exchanged two runs apiece. Nick De Santiago walked and Drury singled before Edison Sanchez singled to center field scoring two runs. Bristol got the two runs back thanks to back-to-back D-Braves errors. After Tyler Williams was walked by Ernesto Silva, a throwing error allowed Bryce Mosier to reach base. On the next play, Jordan Keegan reached when De Santiago had a throwing error which allowed the White Sox's first run to cross the plate.
A Michael Johnson sacrifice fly scored Bristol's second run of the game and cut the D-Braves lead to just one.
In the sixth inning both teams scored yet again. Chase Larsson singled after Edison Sanchez did and then a Sam Munson groundout scored Sanchez. In the home half of the inning, five White Sox reached base safely. The White Sox scored two more in their flurry of hits before Silva was replaced by Wilson Rivera. De Santiago's fifth double of the year gave Danville a 5-4 lead. Ahmed was the third of four Danville batters to be plunked on Sunday.
Ryne Harper relieved Rivera in the eighth. Rivera pitched one and one-third innings while striking out two. The first batter Harper faced, Bradley Salgado, took him deep to right field for his third homerun of the year and the White Sox fifth run of the game. Harper got out of the inning with no more damage.
The game stayed tied at five through four more innings. In the 12th , Drury doubled for his second time on the night and 13th of the season. Billy Beckwith was the next hitter and he crushed a Todd Kibby pitch to right field. Beckwith's sixth homerun of the season gave the Braves a promising 7-5 lead going into the bottom half of the 12th inning.
Joe Lucas replaced Dan Jurik on the mound to start the inning. Lucas was going for his sixth save of the season. He immediately gave up a walk and a single. The next batter, Grant Buckner doubled to right field making it a one run ball game again. Another walk loaded the bases for Salgado. Salgado hit a ball to Drury at third base, Drury threw home for another out and preserved the Danville lead. With one out and the bases loaded, Michael Schwartz won the game for the White Sox on a single to left field. The hit scored two runs and the White Sox were able to walk off with an 8-7 win.
