Mariners Spilt Double-Header With Royals

Pulaski VA (July 31, 2011) - A full day of baseball was on the schedule tonight at Calfee Park as the Pulaski Mariners took on the Burlington Royals for a double-header. When the dust settled, the teams split the double-header with the Mariners winning the first game 4-2 and the Royals wining game two 4-3.

Three runs were scored in the sixth inning by the Mariners, breaking up a one all tie, to give them the lead 4-1. Burlington answered back with one run in the top of the seventh inning, but they would come up short losing 4-2.

Rudy Brown was hit with the loss for Burlington, while David Colvin earned the win for the Mariners. Colvin pitched the final three innings and allowed one unearned run, on one three hits, and struck out four. John Taylor was credited with the save.

In game two, both teams were once again held silent until the third inning, with both teams scoring one run. In a shortened seven inning game, Burlington was able to score twice to take the lead in the top of the ninth 4-2. Pulaski did score once in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn't enough as they dropped game two of the double-header.

Bo Reeder was credited with the loss while, Tyler Graham picked up the win. The final game of the three game series between the Pulaski Mariners and the Burlington Royals will be tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m.
