DANVILLE, Va. - Danville picked up a split in the doubleheader Friday evening against the Burlington Royals in their first matchup of the season. Game one saw Danville score 10 runs on 16 hits while Zach Lovvorn in game two shut down the D-Braves offense allowing just two hits in six innings.
The D-Braves had one of their best offensive performances Friday in game one as the team recorded 16 hits in just seven innings. The team had as stretch of three straight innings in the middle of the game where they plated three to pull away from Burlington.
Mikey Reynolds had the best individual game by a D-Brave this season in game one going 4-for-4 with a triple and four RBI. Connor Lien and Johan Camargo gave Reynolds plenty of RBI opportunities recording three hits each and also each came around to score three times.
Andry Ubiera was electric for Danville as well throwing six innings to win his second game of the year, and his first since opening day. He gave up seven hits and recorded three strikeouts in his time on the mound.
Game two was a different story for the Danville offense though as they faced a tough pitcher in Lovvorn for Burlington. Lovvorn tossed a gem, going six innings with six strikeouts and not allowing a hit until the fifth inning when Lien singled up the middle.
Jared Dettmann pitched well for the D-Braves pitching 5.1 innings and allowing two runs.
The Royals were able to get all the runs needed to win in the third plating one on a single by Desmond Henry. The team was able to add one more insurance run though in the fifth on a single to right field.
The two teams will return to action Saturday with game three of the series at ALP 325 Field. Kevin McCarthy and Michael Flores are scheduled to face off at 7:00 p.m. Saturday also mark the return of a D-Braves alum in bobble head form, as it is Craig Kimbrel Bobble Head Night for the first 500 fans through the gates.
