November 22, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Hartford Athletic News Release
HARTFORD, Conn. - Hartford Athletic midfielder Danny Barrera will return for the 2023 season, pending league and federation approval. This will be Barrera's fifth season in Green and Blue.
"This community has become home for me and my family and I am thrilled to be back with Hartford Athletic for a fifth season," Barrera said. "I am very excited about the direction the club is headed under this technical staff. Our goal is to get back to the playoffs and this group is doing all the right things to get us there. I can't wait to get back on the field with my teammates and get to work."
Barrera is the club's all-time leader in nearly every statistical category including goals (15), assists (29), appearances (101), and minutes played (8,089). His best season for Hartford came in 2021 where he was named to the USL All-League First Team, the only player in club history to receive the honor. He scored eight goals and notched a league high twelve assists during the campaign. He is widely known among Hartford fans for the "Immaculate Deflection" in 2020 - a goal in which he scored via scorpion kick to win the game and help clinch the Group F title for Hartford Athletic.
"Danny is an intelligent, creative player and I am very happy he'll be back with us this season," said Hartford Athletic Head Coach Tab Ramos. "He can affect a game in so many ways and is always a threat to make something happen in the final third. I have great respect for his game, and I look forward to seeing him in action next season."
Barrera is the only player from the inaugural season in 2019 who remains on the roster. Last week, the club announced the re-signing of midfielder Conor McGlynn who is the second longest tenured player on the roster, having been with the club since 2020.
"Danny Barrera has been synonymous with Hartford Athletic for four seasons and we are thrilled he will continue to be with us in 2023," said Technical Director Ray Reid. "He has a vast knowledge of the game and has proven to be someone many of our younger players look up to. We will count on him to serve in that role again this season."
Hartford Athletic also announced that Forward Prince Saydee will return for the 2023 season. More information on new and returning player signings will be available in the coming weeks.
