Hagerstown Suns News Release
HAGERSTOWN M.D. - The Hagerstown Suns will begin the home portion of their 35th season this Thursday, April 16, when they welcome the Lakewood BlueClaws to Municipal Stadium for a four-game series. In a tribute to the team's first season in Hagerstown back in 1981, Dane Anthony, who threw the first pitch in Suns history in 1981, will be on hand Thursday to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Anthony, who now resides near Waynesboro, PA, and is the Sheriff in Franklin County, PA, threw a three-hitter in the Suns first ever game on April 10, 1981 against the Peninsula Pilots. The Suns won that game 6-2 and Anthony was named an All-Star that season. The Suns will be giving out a Dane Anthony bobblehead later in the season prior to the game on July 25.
In addition to Anthony's first pitch, there are several other promotions going on both on Thursday night and throughout the opening homestand that fans are sure to enjoy. Magnet schedules will be handed out throughout opening weekend thanks to sponsors China King and Central City Liquors. Thursday is also the first "Thirsty Thursday" of the season, so fans 21 and over will be able to purchase domestic draft beers such as Bud Light, Coors Light and Yuengling for just $1.00 each. Craft beers on Thursdays will cost just $2.00 each.
There will also be a new craft beer option in the Antietam Brewery Beer Garden this season that will be unveiled on Thursday as well. The beer, called "Bases Loaded", was created by Antietam Brewery to help celebrate the Suns 35th anniversary, and after its unveiling on Thursday it will be available in the Antietam Brewery Beer Garden throughout the season.
Speaking of beer, a specialty Suns beer mug, sponsored by Traveler Beer Company, will be handed out to the first 500 fans through the gates on both Friday and Saturday. The beer mug can be used in the stadium throughout the season to receive discounts on beer. The weekend series against Lakewood will come to an end on Sunday with the first "Sunday Fun Day" of the season presented by Dr. Kevin L. Curlis Podiatry. As part of "Sunday Fun Day" children 13-and-under are invited to play catch on the field prior to the game, and run the bases following the game.
The exciting opening homestand promotions continue on Monday with the first "Mega Monday" of the year. On "Mega Mondays" fans can purchase four GA tickets with $5.00 loaded on each ticket that can be used throughout the stadium for a total of just $40.00 (which is a $16.00 savings). Fans also have the option to purchase just one GA ticket with $5.00 loaded on it for just $12.00 (a $2.00 savings).
"Eats for Seats" returns on Tuesday night, meaning if you bring a canned good to the ticket office that evening you can get a GA ticket for just $4.00. Also returning in 2015 is happy hour pricing on 16-ounce cans of select domestic beers prior to every home game. The happy hour pricing will begin as soon as the gates open and will last until the first pitch is thrown.
The first homestand of the year wraps up with a 10:35am game for "Education Day" on Wednesday April 22. If you bring a group of 10 or more to this game you can get GA tickets for just $2.00 each, or you can get a GA ticket and a lunch voucher for just $5.00.
